Sulfamethazine is a sulfonamide used to treat a variety of bacterial diseases in animals. It inhibits bacterial synthesis of dihydrofolic acid by competing with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) for binding to dihydropteroate synthetase (dihydrofolate synthetase). NCATS
