Crotamiton (N-ethyl-N-(2-methylphenyl) but-2-enamide) is a scabicidal and antipruritic agent available as a cream or lotion for topical use only. Crotamiton is a mixture of the cis (Z) and trans (E) isomers. Crotamiton contains not less than 96.0 per cent and not more than the equivalent of 102.0 per cent of N-ethyl-N-(2-methylphenyl)but-2-enamide, calculated as the sum of the E- and Z-isomers, and not more than 15.0 per cent of the Z-isomer. Isomer-specific pharmacological activity of crotamiton is unknown.   NCATS
